On 19 March 1962 Ludwig Haller received from the major of the village Falkenstein (today 97499 Donnersdorf) the contract for the creation of a 14 part Stations of the Cross for the local catholic church.
Here an article in the local paper „Kitzinger Anzeiger“, dated 2 May 1962.
Pastor Stalder, however, thought the work of art to be too modern for the historic church and declared his disagreement by means of a publicly displayed note in the church.
In due course of time the Stations of the Cross were removed and stored at the Arch Diocese of Würzburg. After the chapel St Vitus in Wülfershausen / Saale proved to be too small for the growing congregation, a new modern church was built. The old Stations of the Cross of existing chapel appeared way too small for the large wall in the church. A more appropriate version of the Stations of the Cross were sought from the Diocese. Eventually, the parish of Wülfershausen bought the stored works. The modern church now offers the perfect space and surrounds for Haller’s Stations of the Cross. The individual parts measure 66 cm height by 61.4 cm width.
